My name is Lai Ling. Before I believed in Jesus, I was timid and very much afraid of darkness. I remembered the days when I was young and living in a housing estate, someone jumped off from the apartment opposite ours. For the following week I was unrest and frightened. I took a detour after school to avoid walking near the road where the man fell. I was scared I might encounter anything supernatural.
In Hong Kong I worked as a nurse. In this industry, we had to work night shifts and faced with some dying patients. But I thanked the Lord that I could know Him and believe in Him. I had peace of mind. Sometimes on night shifts, when I had to walk down the quiet and lonely backstair all by myself, or patrol to other wards for patients’ inspection, I did not feel frightened. I was humming hymns silently while working because I was sure that God was truly with me.
