The Lord is for me among those who help me

Hi, everybody. I am Kammi.

My husband and I and our two children have been living in the UK for a year already. Three years ago, the pandemic, the social campaign and the government’s policy left our family in fright and anxiety. Then when the UK announced the BNO visa route, a person like me, who had never travelled outside Asia, had to emigrate to a country I had never been – UK. Never had I thought of, nor even dreamt of this.

At that time, my daughter had reached the age of entering Form One in the UK education system. We intended to let her adapt to the school environment as early as possible. So, in January 2021, determined to start a new life, our whole family made for the UK hurriedly.

As we had not a detailed plan beforehand, we chose to settle at Nottingham after just collecting some information on the internet and from some friends. In the first few days after our arrival, we were so happily prepared to welcome our new life, enjoying the living space, which is a few times larger, the fresh air and the beautiful scenery of snow fluttering. But as days passed, my husband and I began to feel frustrated because we could not get a house for long-term renting and the prices of properties in Nottingham were much higher than what we had expected. When we were at a loss, my husband got an unexpected call. It was a call from a brother in the church. He had been asked to offer help to us by my husband’s elder brother, who was worried that we might have difficulties in settling down. We thanked God that he and our elder brother gave us so much invaluable advice on picking the most suitable living place for ourselves. So finally, we chose to settle down in Birkenhead.

In this year or more, I am grateful to God that I have come to know and accept Him. We have also made friends with the brothers and sisters here. They make me feel warm because though we did not know or meet each other before, they strive to offer a helping hand when we have difficulties. We have spent our first year in the UK and God has led us to a peaceful and joyful life. We hope that more Hong Kong people can immigrate here and experience the peace and joy from God.
